Had one of those nights? Can't sleep? Maybe it is a major test coming up. Maybe it is a big decision that you have to make. Maybe you drank too many sodas. Whatever the reason is .... here I am. Awake at 1:31am. What are some of the things you do when you can't sleep? Do you pray? Read the Bible? Play games on your phone, computer, i-Pad or other electronic device? What are some things that you do to help yourself go to sleep? Let me know!! Comments are open and the floor is yours!! Here is a top 9 list of excuses (yes these are real as reported by several youth leaders) that parents have used for not letting their kids go on a trip. Which is the best? You be the judge. 9. "The late-night activities are past my child's bedtime." 8. "My child is constipated." 7. "We are vegetarians." 6. "We just saw the rule about not being able to bring alcohol and tobacco products." 5. "My daughter's small group leader freaks her out-- she's too calm and nice." 4. "My son just found out he is afraid of nature." 3. "I don't trust religious people." 2. "There is no tornado plan in the information you sent." And the number one reason ... of all time ... of excuses parents have used to not let their kids go on a trip ... is..... 1. "A LION ESCAPED FROM THE ZOO!!" Our thanks to Group Magazine for this list!! Enjoy and feel free to give ones that are better.... Our lives are often times filled with worry. For the girls it might be worried about their hair, clothes, what the other girls think and what the boys think about us. For guys ... well most don't worry too much about hair, clothes matching and things like that, however they do worry about what other guys think and what girls think about them. Have you ever lost sleep because you were worried about something? Have you felt like the entire world (and especially your family) is against you? What do you do with that worry? How do you handle it? King David of the Bible had many worries. Running a country can be hard work. Read Psalm 3. David is running for his life at this moment (2 Samuel 16 tells the story in greater detail). David was a king after God's own heart. David restored Israel. God blessed David greatly. Like most humans David sinned. You know the story of Bathsheba (Amanda did a wonderful job on her peep show about that this Easter). From that moment David did not receive the blessing from God. First God sent the prophet Nathan to tell David that God knew what David had done. God allowed division to enter David's household. Brother against brother, brother against father. Psalm 3 is David's morning prayer to God. He has much to be worried about. His son has raised up a revolt against him and yet David praises the Lord. David looks to God for comfort. David reached out to God, asked Him to deliver and protect him and with that confidence David can sleep and awake rested. How many times to we wake up not rested from tossing and turning because we try to handle things ourselves? Give your problems all to God and rest in the comfort that He never sleeps and will protect us, just as He protected David. Rest in God always! |
